自己紹介

Nice to meet you. I'm Tommy. My Japanese name is Hirahara Tomoaki. I live in Norway and study networking and IT security. I want to work in IT support or security in Japan. I study Japanese every day. My hobbies are games and making apps. I look forward to working with you.

My Japanese name

平原

Hirahara: my surname, translated

平 means flat and 原 a plain or meadow. That's exactly what Slettvold means in Norwegian: slett (flat) + voll (meadow). It's also a real Japanese family name.

智明

Tomoaki: close to Tommy

智 means wisdom and 明 bright or clear. Tomoaki is a common Japanese first name that sounds close to Tommy.

On official papers in Japan my name is written as in my passport, in katakana: トミー・アンドレ・スレットボルド.

How I study

道

Every day

A short daily session beats a long weekly one: reviews, one lesson step, a little reading.

鬼

With my own app

I built Oni Dojo to learn the way I wanted: guided lessons, spaced repetition and real voices.

聴

Listening

Japanese radio all day through Tokoyami Oni Radio, another app I made.
