Rireki Studio: a Japanese CV maker for foreigners

Applying for jobs in Japan means two documents with their own rules: the 履歴書, a fixed form, and the 職務経歴書, where you show what you have done. I could not find a tool that handled a foreign applicant's situation, such as schools abroad, name order, residence status or asking for visa support, so I built one.

Rireki Studio works in English and Japanese, checks for about 30 common mistakes, and saves a clean A4 PDF through your browser's print dialog. There is no account and no server: your CV never leaves your device. Try it or read the guide.

If you try it, I'd love to hear what you think, good or bad: send me a message, or leave a review on Google Play.

Oni Dojo is with Google for review

Version 3.8.0 went to Google Play today. Getting there took more than code: a payments profile, a data-safety form, content ratings, a privacy policy, a server that checks every purchase with Google, and account emails from my own domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC in place.

The security side was the most fun. Purchases are verified on the server before anything unlocks, the database only lets each account touch its own rows, and the app never needs to know who you are unless you make an account. If you're curious how it fits together, there's a diagram on the projects page. Found a bug or have an idea? Tell me.

Oni Dojo is heading to Google Play

Oni Dojo started as the Japanese course I wanted for myself. It now runs on Windows and Android, with Kurenai as a glowing oni mask, over 15,000 voice recordings, and conversations you can answer out loud.

On Android, kana and the whole N5 course are free. Premium unlocks everything up to N1. There are no ads and no tracking, because a learning app shouldn't need them.

Hello, world — こんにちは

This is my corner of the internet: what I build, what I study, and my road to working in Japan. It's also a way to practise: I'll add Japanese to these notes as my level grows.
